Saikia and Bhatia certain to be elected unopposed as BCCI Secretary and Treasurer

New Delhi
Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be elected unopposed as BCCI Secretary and Treasurer on January 12 as only two names figure in the final list of contesting candidates. The list of contesting candidates was prepared on Tuesday by BCCI election officer and former Chief Election Commissioner of India Achal Kumar Joti.

The deadline for filing nominations ended last week, while the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended at 2 pm on Tuesday. Since no names were withdrawn, the returning officer published the list of contesting candidates at 5 pm on Tuesday.

The elections will be held during the BCCI SGM on January 12 and the result, which is now a formality, will be declared on the same day. Saikia has been working as the BCCI’s interim secretary since Jay Shah became the ICC chairman on December 1.

Bhatia had filed nomination for the post of treasurer as the post fell vacant due to Ashish Shelar, who was recently sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government.
