ED found more than 3.5 kg gold from the bank locker of betting accused

The team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Indore has seized foreign gold from the bank lockers of the accused involved in online cricket betting. ED opened the bank locker of Sanjay Aggarwal, accused in betting, on Tuesday and investigated.

During this, foreign gold biscuits weighing 3.50 kg were recovered. Along with this, 750 grams of jewelery was also found. The total cost of all this has been estimated at Rs 3.36 crore. The gold and jewelery have been seized by ED.

The team had reached Indore and Ludhiana
On December 12, ED had conducted investigation by raiding the premises of Ujjain-based bookie Piyush Chopra and his associates. Teams had also reached Indore and Ludhiana at the locations of his associates involved in betting business.

Bank account and locker frozen
The ED team had also reached the premises of Chopra’s associate Sanjay Aggarwal of Indore. Bank accounts and lockers were frozen in the preliminary investigation. The investigation was taken forward by opening Agarwal’s lockers on Tuesday.

Online betting also on tennis courts
According to ED, these bookies of Indore-Ujjain were associated with an international gang. Along with cricket, they also used to run online betting on tennis matches. They used to run the racket by obtaining mobile SIMs through fake documents.

After also finding evidence of hawala and money laundering, ED had registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Cash worth Rs 31 lakh and property worth Rs 8 crore have been seized in the December raids.
