Sayani Gupta, who has acted in films like Margarita with a Straw, Inside Edge and Four More Shots Please, recently recalled a disturbing moment on the sets. He told how a co-star kept kissing him after the director said ‘cut’.
The 39-year-old actress, in an interview during the promotion of her film ‘Khwabon Ka Jhamela’, stressed on the importance of intimacy coordinators in films and television. Sayani Gupta said that she was happy to have intimacy coordinators like the West in Bollywood. He believes that this helps in maintaining boundaries while shooting.
In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, he talked about some disturbing incidents that happened to him. She told that once on the set, despite the director saying ‘cut’, her co-star continued the kissing scene, due to which she was feeling very uncomfortable. Although Sayani did not name her co-star, the incident raised questions in her mind about how much safety and respect actors need in the film industry.
Concern expressed over lack of security
Sayani Gupta recounts another disturbing incident on the sets. She had to lie on the beach in a short dress in the sand while shooting the first season of “Four More Shots Please.” There were about 70 people present there, but when the shooting was over, she wanted someone standing near her with a shawl.
He felt that no one paid any attention to his safety on the set. Recalling this experience, Sayani said, “Sometimes the safety of an actress or anyone’s safety is the last thing. This has become a common mindset, which needs to change.”
Role of Intimacy Coordinator
Sayani also said in this conversation that boundaries should be respected on the set. Intimacy coordinators play an important role for this. These coordinators not only ensure the safety of the actress during the shooting, but also take care of her consent. Sayani believes that unless this mentality changes, many actresses in the industry will have to face insecurity and insensitivity.
