Railways is the lifeline of the country. Railways is constantly working on modernizing the latest technology, facilities and infrastructure to provide seamless passenger service. At present, under the ambitious project of the Railway Ministry, work of redevelopment of stations and upgradation of stations is being done under “Amrit Bharat Station” scheme to provide world class facilities to the passengers. In this sequence, Bilaspur Railway Station is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 435 crore, Raipur Railway Station at a cost of Rs 456 crore and Durg Railway Station at a cost of Rs 463 crore. The scheme aims to upgrade passenger amenities, improve crowd management and modernize the station complex as well as make it environment friendly. Under the redevelopment, special attention will be given to better waiting rooms, state-of-the-art security system, cleanliness and green areas.
Redevelopment of Bilaspur station
Keeping in mind the long-term needs of the redevelopment of Bilaspur Railway Station, provision of waiting area in the concourse for seating about 800 passengers simultaneously, provision of about 28 thousand square meter parking area for more than 1123 vehicles, better crowd. For management, provision of separate entry and exit routes in the station has been made, provision of 3 new feet wide overbridge has been made in which there will be two stations for entry and one for exit from the station. Provision of 6000 square meter concourse has been made, for the special convenience of elderly and disabled passengers, 30 lifts and 22 escalators will be made, which will make it easier for passengers to move from one platform to another. Number of passengers: 65,867 per day (maximum 6,587 in peak hours) Capacity will be prepared accordingly.
Redevelopment of Raipur station
Keeping in mind the long term requirements under the redevelopment of Bilaspur Railway Station, provision of 4974 square meter waiting area in the concourse to accommodate maximum passengers, provision of parking area for more than 2200 vehicles, better crowd management at the station. Provision for separate entry and exit routes and a concourse of approximately 3400 square meters has been made. Special facility for elderly and disabled passengers. Number of passengers: 47,967 per day (maximum 4,797 in peak hours) Capacity will be prepared accordingly.
Redevelopment of Durg Station
Keeping in mind the long-term needs of the redevelopment of Bilaspur Railway Station, provision of waiting area in the concourse for seating about 1300 passengers simultaneously, provision of about 19 thousand square meter parking area for more than 925 vehicles, better congestion. For management, provision of separate entry and exit routes in the station has been made, provision of 03 new feet wide overbridge has been made in which two stations will be for entry and one for exit from the station. A provision of 35 square meters of concourse has been made, for the special convenience of elderly and disabled passengers, 45 lifts and 21 escalators will be made, which will make it easier for passengers to move from one platform to another. Number of passengers: 39,498 per day (maximum 3,950 in peak hours) Capacity will be prepared accordingly.
Under the station redevelopment, solar power plants will be installed on the roofs of the stations underlining the importance of clean energy for environmental protection in Bilaspur, Raipur and Durg stations. In view of water conservation, rain water harvesting and fire fighting along with emergency power back-up will be installed in the station building. The essential facilities provided to the passengers include food, drinking water, ATM, internet, washroom, covered shed, standard signage and disabled friendly facilities etc.
Bilaspur, Raipur and Durg stations are being given a world class look and are being transformed into green stations, where there will be provision of natural light and ventilation. After redevelopment, Bilaspur station will become an attractive center of technology, local culture and rich heritage with hi-tech passenger facilities. With the increase in the number of passengers, there will be a huge possibility of increasing employment which will benefit the local people. This station will play an important role in the economic activities of this region as well as in trade and tourism. Apart from these stations, 46 stations of South East Central Railway are being upgraded under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
