Wheat became cheaper by Rs 25 in Indore mandi due to the fall in Delhi, but this softening is considered to be temporary. The arrival of wheat was only 1500 bags. Flour prices continue to rise. The price of flour has reached Rs 3380-3400 per quintal. Wheat in the market is Mill Quality 2850-2900, Purna 2850-2900, Lok Van 2900-3100, Malvraj 2900-2925 Maize 2275 to 2300 rupees.
Wheat prices have reached the highest level in the past few days. In South India it has touched the level of Rs 3400 per quintal. The mills there are not getting enough wheat from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab or Haryana. At present they are dependent on wheat from Uttar Pradesh.
There has been an unexpected rise in wheat prices in the last month. The main reason behind this is the government not selling wheat in the open market (OMSS) even during the festive season. However, the real reason is that both the mathematics and calculations of the government have failed in the matter of wheat production.
Emphasis on sale of PDS wheat and flour
The government had claimed that wheat production this year was a record 113.29 million tonnes. Whereas looking at the market situation, experts are saying that the actual production is much lower than this. On the other hand, the government is still engaged in political steps instead of controlling prices. The government is still not focusing on open market sale. Rather, considering the electoral mathematics, the emphasis is on selling wheat and flour in PDS.
However, this does not seem to be making any significant difference to market prices in the long run. There is a fear in the local market that if the government still does not pay attention to the sales, the inflation of flour and wheat will increase further. In fact, the mills did not hold the goods in the last month in the hope of government sale. They have less stock now. Even the farmer does not have much goods.
