A big news is coming from Karnataka, which can cause a stir in the politics of the state in the coming time. The Governor there has given permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA case related to his family. Governor Thawarchand Gehlot has received complaints from two activists, one of whom is RTI activist TJ Abraham. The second complaint was made recently by social activist Snehamayi Krishna.
The complaint states that there have been clear violations in the allotment of 14 sites by MUDA to Siddaramaiah’s wife despite repeated claims by CM Siddaramaiah of following the law.
Earlier, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had also issued a show cause notice to the Chief Minister asking why permission should not be given to prosecute him. In response, the Karnataka cabinet “strongly recommended” that the Governor withdraw the notice issued to the Chief Minister.
What is the matter?
The land allotment scam in Karnataka has been in the headlines. The wife of the Karnataka Chief Minister was a beneficiary of MUDA during the BJP’s tenure in 2021. At that time 38,284 square feet of land in prime locations of Mysore was allotted to her as compensation for the alleged illegal acquisition of her 3.16 acres of land. Her 3.16 acres of land in Kesare village in Mysore was gifted to her by her brother Mallikarjuna.
As compensation, they were given land in a prime area in South Mysore. It is alleged that its price is much higher than the land in Kesar village. Due to this, questions have been raised about the fairness of the compensation.
Siddaramaiah had defended the land allotment, saying it was done during the previous BJP government.
