Need to get out of the fascination for civil service jobs: Dhankhar

Pointing to the “flooding of coaching centre advertisements” in newspapers, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed concern over students’ “fascination” with civil services and urged them to look for “lucrative” opportunities available in other fields.

Dhankhar was addressing the ‘induction’ programme of the first batch of the combined postgraduate and LLM degree in Intellectual Property (IP) Law and Management at the National Law University in Delhi. He said, “… now, I find a flood of coaching centre advertisements in newspapers… page one, page two, page three… are filled with faces of boys and girls who have achieved success. The same face is being used by many institutions.”

Dhankhar said, “Look at the flood of these advertisements… the cost and every single penny has come from the young boys and girls who are trying to secure a future for themselves.” The Vice President asked the youth to look for opportunities in other fields as well. He said, “The time has come, let us get out of the fascination of civil service jobs. We know that opportunities are limited, we have to look at the other side and find that the vast landscape of opportunities is much more attractive which enables you to contribute (to the nation) in a big way. He urged the youth to sideline and neutralize the forces that put selfishness above the interest of the country.
