The way has been cleared to become the metropolis of Indore and Bhopal. The government has approved the Urban Administration and Housing Department to prepare the draft of MP Metropolitan Planning and Development Act 2025.
A review meeting was held on the proposal for the formation of Metropolitan Area under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Additional Chief Secretary of Urban Housing and Development Department Sanjay Shukla told in the presentation that the first phase of Indore Metropolitan Area has been completed. Tender process has been released for the appointment of consultant for Bhopal Metropolitan Area.
The development of both cities will be the responsibility of the Metropolitan Development Authority. Read which areas will come in Indore-Bhopal Metropolitan area and what will be its form?
There will be 1756 villages in 5 districts
The Indore Metropolitan area includes five districts Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Dhar and Shajapur. The total area will be about 9 thousand sq km. The population of this area will be close to 55 lakhs. The work of developing the Indore Metropolitan area is taking place fast.
Indore Development Authority (IDA) has been made the nodal agency. The IDA has appointed a consultant to prepare the development plan. The metropolitan area is to be developed in 4 stages, including Inspusion, situation analysis, regional and investment plan and DPR.
Its first phase ie inception has been completed, that is, it has been decided that what will be the total area of the metropolitan area? Which districts will be included, what will be the number of tehsils and villages? Now a draft of situation analysis will be prepared i.e. different tehsils of districts, data of bodies, population there, established industry, specialty of field will be studied.
After this, there will be an assessment of the geographical, economic, religious-social status there. Where is the industry, what kind of needs are there will also be prepared. After this, a regional and investment plan will be made, in which it will be seen that the metropolitan area can be developed equally. After this the detail project report will be released.
Indore Metropolitan City to be built in an area of 7863 sq km
On the initiative of CM Dr. Mohan Yadav, Indore and Bhopal are being developed as metros. Apart from Indore, Ujjain, Dewas and Dhar districts will also be mixed in Indore Metropolitan City. Metropolitan City will include the entire Indore while some part of Ujjain, Dewas and Dhar will also be added to it. Consultant has been appointed for this in Indore.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav announced to make Bhopal-Indore a Metropolitan City and immediately made plans by instructions to implement it. The exercise of Indore metropolis is going on fast.
A total of 7863 sq km area determined
According to Indore Municipal Corporation officials, the administration has prepared a plan for Indore Metropolitan City. A total area of 7863 sq km has been determined for this. 19 bodies will be included in Indore Metropolitan City. In the next two and a half decades, reports have been summoned from more than one and a half dozen departments to prepare the roadmap for development.
Similarly, Bhopal Metropolitan City will also be developed in which parts of Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, Rajgarh districts along with Bhopal will be mixed. The preliminary plan for Bhopal Metropolitan included 59 gram panchayats of Bhopal and 9 gram panchayats of Mandideep in Raisen district. Now many new areas will be added to them. The Bhopal Metropolitan Authority will be formed after the blueprint is finalized. There will be an MoU between the central government and the state government.
In Avantika Metropolitan Region Name Possible Review Meeting was also considered what would be the name of the two metros? The option of three names has been kept for the Indore Metropolitan area.

Sources reveal that in the meeting, the third option i.e. Avantika metropolitan region has been reached in principle. However, the final decision will be taken after the Metropolitan Act is formed.
The reason for the fast work in Indore is due to the fast work of Indore Metropolitan’s fast Simhastha 2028. Actually, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) has been added to the area of Indore. The government is trying to give new pace to industries and trade.
This will promote industrial investment in areas like Dewas, Pithampur, Ujjain and Badnawar. Also, Indore, Dewas and other cities will be linked to strong roads, rail and air routes, so that devotees coming to Simhastha can get better connectivity.
The appointment of consultant for Bhopal in June has been included in Bhopal Metropolitan Area Bhopal-Sehore-Raisen-Vidisha and Biaora in Rajgarh district. Bhopal Development Authority has been made a nodal agency to develop Metropolitan Region. However, it is not yet decided how much area of these districts will be included in the Bhopal Metropolitan area.
In the year 2022, the Shivraj government approved the proposal of the Metropolitan Area in the cabinet to expand the metro rail project in Bhopal to Mandideep. At that time, Bhopal Metropolitan was defined as the program, which included 59 gram panchayats of Bhopal and 9 gram panchayats of Mandideep investment area (Raisen).
It was informed in the review meeting that the tender has been issued for the appointment of consultant, which will open in June.
