In May, electricity consumers may get a shock from the bill. The bill will increase by about 50 to 100 rupees. On April 1, the distribution company had issued instructions to increase the rate of about 4 percent electricity on the new tariff order of the Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Due to this, consumers who consume 200 to 400 units of electricity will have to pay additional payments in electricity bills from 50 to 99 rupees. The Consumer Guiding Forum has demanded a ban on this.
Demand to stop increased rate
Civil Consumer Guide Forum, Senior Citizen Association, Women’s Committee, Human Rights Revolution Organization and Senior Citizen Welfare Association, expressing outrage over this increased electricity prices, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Monday demanding a stay under Section 108 of the Electricity Act 2003.
Commission did not take action against power companies
Dr. Nazpande said that according to the circular of MP Power Management Company, the power loss percentage was 15.45 as per 24 January 2024. But later within a year, according to the circular dated 25 March 2025 of the same company, it has increased to 17.22 percent.
In reality, the power loss percentage was required, but it has increased upside down. This Electricity Regulatory Commission order has been completely disregarded. Even after this, the Commission has not taken action against the power companies.
