Women officials will also be trained for the first time in Indian military academy Dehradun

For the first time women officers will also be trained in the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun. The change came after the Supreme Court order three years ago, when training of women officials was started in the National Defense Academy (NDA) Kharagwasla. Now doors are being opened for women officers in IMA and they will be trained in all three branches of the army.

Historical order of Supreme Court:
In 2022, the Supreme Court said in a historic judgment that women can also appear in the NDA examination and become officers in the army. Since then, the way has been opened for women to step into the army. Till now, women were not trained in IMA, but the Supreme Court’s decision has completely changed this picture.

Training of women in NDA and IMA:
So far, 145 women have been ranked colonel and 115 women have taken command of the unit. Currently, 126 women officers are undergoing training in NDA. Eight of these women have opted for their career as their career. These women officers will be given one year training in IMA, after which they will get commission.

Increasing steps of women:
This change is an important step in the Indian Army for women. This will not only promote their confidence, but will also strengthen the participation of women in the army. This step will prove to be a major step towards diversifying the work force of the army and equality.
