Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam recently said that India is emerging as an important pole in the global economy, and Singapore is ready to support it. Shanmugaratnam emphasized India’s growing economic strength and its increasing influence in global politics. He said that both the governments are actively working to take the cooperation between Singapore and India to a new level.
India’s economic development and Singapore’s cooperation
Shanmugaratnam said India’s young population, growth trajectory, and export-driven economy are making it a major force on the global stage. He said that in the next 10-20 years, India’s role will increase in the global economy and with this, Singapore’s cooperation will also strengthen. Both the countries have decided to work together to develop the semiconductor ecosystem. Shanmugaratnam also said that Singapore is now paying special attention to industrial parks and skill development in India, to further boost the economic growth of both the countries.
Skill Development and Renewable Energy
The Singapore President also said that skill development will be important for India in the future. Skills infrastructure is growing in India and Singapore is ready to support this process. Along with this, cooperation between the two countries will also increase in the renewable energy sector. India has huge potential in the field of solar and wind energy, and Singapore is keen to expand partnerships with India in this sector.
Cooperation in aviation and digital sector also
On India’s growing role in the aviation sector, Shanmugaratnam said India also has potential in the MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) sector, and Singapore is working to enhance cooperation in this sector. Apart from this, both the countries are also working together in the fintech and digital sector, so that the flow of data and trust between the financial institutions of the two countries can be increased. Shanmugaratnam said that work is being done to increase trust between India and Singapore. He believes that building trust between the two countries will set a strong example in today’s uncertain and unstable world.
