Police have busted the liquor smuggling network. The smuggler used to smuggle on the lines of the film Pushpa The Rule. The accused had watched the film thrice to come up with the method of smuggling. During interrogation, the name of liquor smuggler and MLA supporter contractor has been confessed.
According to DCP Zone-2 Abhinay Vishwakarma, information was received that drums of suspicious chemicals were being loaded into trucks at night in a chemical warehouse located in SR Compound. The police raided what they thought was a drug supply den and were stunned to find branded liquor bottles worth lakhs of rupees.

Rahul is the gang leader
Police have seized 42 boxes of illicit liquor worth Rs 3 lakh 82 thousand. According to TI Taresh Soni, the leader of the accused gang is Rahul. He started the liquor supply business after watching the film Pushpa. Before this he had also come after watching the film thrice. The accused had put up a board of chemical factory outside the warehouse. Packing was often done at night. They used to buy liquor in bulk from a liquor shop located at MR-11 and pack it in chemical drums and seal it. On checking, they used to remove the trucks by declaring them as drums of chemicals. According to the police, the role of the contractor is being investigated.
Liquor worth three crores seized
Continuous action is being taken by the Excise Department to stop the sale and transportation of illegal liquor in Indore city. Last year, from January to December, nine and a half thousand cases of illicit liquor were registered and illicit liquor worth Rs 3 crore was seized. This includes local, foreign, Mahua Lahan and hemp. Last year, the Excise Department took action against illegal liquor and registered 9507 cases. In this, 54 thousand 147 liters of liquor was seized. Its estimated value is around Rs 1.39 crore.
Action being taken against those selling illegal liquor
The department has also seized one lakh 65 thousand 583 kg of Mahua Lahan and 453 kg of cannabis in the last year. Its estimated market value is Rs 1.66 crore. Assistant Commissioner Excise Manish Khare said that the Excise Department is continuously taking action against those selling and transporting illegal liquor.
Apart from this, the department also runs a campaign to check late night bypass and dhabas and hotels operating inside the city. Opening and closing hours are being monitored by installing CCTV cameras in bars.
86 vehicles seized
Last year, the Excise Department took action and seized 86 vehicles for transporting illegal liquor. These include 71 two-wheelers, one three-wheeler and 14 four-wheelers. The estimated value of the seized vehicles is Rs 1.09 crore.
