Fake matrimonial website: Used to make girls talk to trap victims, duped 500 people


A person who cheated people in the name of arranging marriages has been caught by the police. He used to call himself a manager. The accused had opened a call center in Mangala Colony, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, where he used to talk to girls and extort money in the name of marriage expenses for registering on the website.

Cyber ​​crime police on Monday arrested 24-year-old Harish Bhardwaj, resident of Indranagar Colony, Khajuri Banaras. The accused used to cheat about 500 unmarried people across the country by creating a fake Metromaniam website on the pretext of getting them married.

  • According to the Crime Branch, 47-year-old Anand Kumar Dixit, living near Kasturba Nagar Chetakbridge, does personal work. He told the police that he saw the advertisement of Sangam Vivah Metromoney on Facebook on May 4, 2024. Contacted on the number written on it.
  • Later, photos of some girls were sent to him on WhatsApp. When he liked a girl, he was talked to by the call center girls.
  • He took around Rs 1.50 lakh for preparing marriage papers, lawyer’s fees, hotel rent, buying Mangal Sutra, money from Shagun, Panditji and other names and later switched off the phone.
  • Upon realizing the fraud, he complained to the crime branch. Later the police started searching for him.
  • Meanwhile, on Monday, the accused had reached the crime branch to open a closed bank account after a settlement was reached in an old fraud case.
  • The police became suspicious of him and when they talked to the fraud victim Anand Dixit, they arrested Harish Bhardwaj.

  • Harish Bhardwaj had created fake matrimonial websites named Indian Royal Matrimony, Search Rishtey, Dream Partner India, 7 Phere Matrimony, Sangam Vivah and My Shaadi Planner.
  • After registering the unmarried people, he used to talk to the girls working in the call center and collected money from them.
  • He used to pay a salary of ten thousand rupees every month to the girls working in the call centre. The accused is so clever that he has changed many places in UP, Chhattisgarh. If people caught him, he would return their money, if If someone harassed him too much, he would threaten him with police.
