Farmers march to Delhi, adamant on the border; Long traffic jam in the capital

Farmers from Uttar Pradesh are marching to Delhi, causing huge traffic jam and deployment of security forces on the Delhi border. Protests are going on regarding various demands of farmers. Police have diverted traffic, while farmers have refused to return home until a solution is found.

Farmers of Uttar Pradesh have marched to Delhi on Monday with their various demands, due to which heavy deployment of security forces has been made on the Delhi border. Traffic has been disrupted on DND flyway and Chilla border. Due to route diversion and police checking, long queues formed on the routes from Sector 15A to Delhi and from Kalindi Kunj to Delhi, due to which people had to face huge traffic jams since morning.

Rakesh Tikait said- solution will come from Delhi

Farmers’ march to Delhi continues on 2 December 2024. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, “Farmers have been stopped at Mahamaya flyover. Farmers want to go towards Delhi because the solution will come from Delhi only.” However, the police are stopping the farmers from going to Delhi.

Major demands of farmers:

  • Farmers claim that 10 percent of the population should get plots.
  • Farmers should be given 64.7% more compensation under land acquisition.
  • Under the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, compensation should be four times the market rate.
  • Farmers and their children got 20% plots and employment opportunities.
  • Children of landed and landless farmers should get rehabilitation benefits and settlements should be settled.
  • There is also a demand to guarantee minimum support price (MSP).

Traffic situation worsened at Chilla border

Due to the farmers’ agitation, there is a huge traffic jam in the traffic going from Noida Sector 15A towards Chilla Border. Traffic has been diverted and the screaming red light has been kept signal free. By barricading, traffic is being allowed to enter Delhi from two lanes.

Farmers’ protest, talks with police failed

Farmers have started a dharna at Dalit Prerna Sthal located in Sector 95 of Noida. Despite talks with the police and authority officials, no solution could be found, after which the farmers decided to sit on a dharna here.

Tight security arrangements in New Delhi

In view of the farmers’ demonstration, Section 163 of BNS has been imposed in New Delhi area. Additional deployment of police force has been made, and surveillance is also being done with drones. Meanwhile, senior police officers are also present at Chilla border.

Will not return home without solution

The protesters have made it clear that they will not return home until their demands are resolved. A farmer leader involved in the protest said, “The government has time to fulfill our demands, if they agree then we will return home, otherwise we will announce further programmes.”
