A protest organized by supporters of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has turned violent resulting in the death of six security personnel and injuries to over 100 people. This demonstration was being held demanding the release of Imran Khan and it is increasing in D-Chowk area of ​​Islamabad.
Attack on paramilitary forces and police
According to ‘Radio Pakistan’, four officers of Pakistan Rangers were killed when they were hit by a vehicle on Srinagar Highway in Islamabad on Monday night. Apart from this, five rangers and many policemen were seriously injured. After this attack, the protesters pelted stones at the security personnel and also fired at them. After this, there was indiscriminate firing on the security personnel at Chungi No. 26 of Rawalpindi due to which two police personnel were killed. Many other security personnel have been seriously injured in this violent attack.
PTI supporters protest and clashes
Supporters of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were moving towards the government offices located in D-Chowk, Islamabad. Security forces had set up barricades to stop them but the protesters broke these barriers and resorted to violence. During this, there was a clash between police and protesters at Hakla Interchange, in which a policeman died.
Statement of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned this violence. He said that strict action will be taken against those who are involved in this violence. He described the attack on security personnel as wrong and unacceptable and ordered to identify those responsible for it and take action.
Army deployed and orders to shoot
In view of the increasing situation of violence, the Government of Pakistan has decided to deploy army in Islamabad. Apart from this, orders have been given to the security forces to shoot so that the disturbance can be controlled. This incident may further escalate the ongoing political tension in Pakistan and seriously affect the security situation of the country.
