Homeless people will get lease in urban areas

As per the wish of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, houses are being provided to the rural and urban homeless of Chhattisgarh state. In the same sequence, the forms of permanent lease deed and temporary lease deed have been prescribed for homeless persons in Chhattisgarh urban areas under the Lease Rights Act, 2023 and the rules made under it, 2023.

Under this Act, those persons will be eligible for lease who are living on 600 square feet in Municipal Corporation area and on 800 square feet of government land in other bodies before August 20, 2017. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Shri Tankram Verma has informed the state. Instructions have been given to conduct a survey of eligible persons within the prescribed time limit for distribution of leases to homeless persons in urban areas. He has said that the urban homeless have to be given leases for their own permanent houses.

Chhattisgarh government will give free lease of government land for 30 years to the homeless people continuously occupying government land in urban areas from August 20, 2017. In the context of verification of possession of land, the electoral commission’s voter list, telephone bill, property tax or consolidated tax register of local body, water tax payment document, building or shop permit, leasehold lease granted under the Act, Aadhaar card or driving license are included.
