Farmers of Madhya Pradesh have set a new record in the production of spice crops. The state has achieved the first position in the country with the record production of more than 54 lakh tonnes of spices in 2023-24. Horticulture and Food Processing Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha has congratulated the farmers of the state on this achievement. He attributed this success to the hard work and dedication of the farmers.

Ways to make agriculture profitable
Farmers of the state have increased the production of spice crops by 2 lakh 16 thousand metric tons in the last 4 years. It has got second place in the production of chilli. Minister Kushwaha said that it is necessary for the farmers to grow cash crops like coriander, turmeric, chilli, ginger, garlic and cumin along with traditional agricultural crops. These spice crops can be produced in a short time and also fetch good prices in the market. These crops can become a source of additional income for farmers.

Advice for adopting floriculture and orchards
The Minister advised the farmers to adopt spice crops as well as orchards and floriculture (flower cultivation). He said that even in these areas, farmers are getting grants and other facilities from the state and central government. Apart from this, good quality seeds and plants are being made available from government nurseries.

Schemes for protection of crops
Kushwaha also assured to help the farmers in the field of food processing. He said that various plans have been made for cold storage, warehouse and storage facilities. Under these schemes, farmers are being provided grants, training and technical assistance to enable them to conserve and store crops.
