Indian Railways is committed to providing clean and high quality bedrolls to its passengers. Clean, hygienic and high quality bedrolls are being provided to passengers in all air-conditioned trains operating in Bhopal division of West Central Railway. All bedsheets and pillow covers are washed and ironed in the mechanized laundry after every use to ensure a comfortable, hygienic and safe journey to the passengers by providing them with clean bedrolls.
Shri Devashish Tripathi, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Bhopal Division, said, “We are constantly striving to provide the best facilities to our passengers. Supplying clean and high quality linen is one of our priorities.”
Detailed process of linen washing:
1. Sorting and Inspection:
Used linen is sorted when it reaches the laundry and any damaged or torn linen is separated.
2. Pre-treatment:
Pre-treatment is done on linen to remove stains. This process ensures that the linen is completely clean after washing.
3. Automatic Washing:
The linen is put into large industrial washing machines, where high quality detergents and sanitizers are used. Special care is taken about the temperature of water and time of washing so that bacteria and viruses can be destroyed.
4. Drying Process:
The washed linen is dried in a tumble dryer, providing additional sanitization.
5. Pressing and Folding:
After drying, the linen is pressed and folded and packed according to the correct packaging size.
6. Quality Control:
Every linen is checked for cleanliness, whiteness and the quality of washed linen is checked by Whiteness Meter to ensure high quality.
Bhopal Mandal is conscious about the environment. To conserve water, modern water recycling system (ETP) is used and biodegradable detergents are used which are not harmful to the environment.
The cleaned and packed linens are then sent on trains. Here these are set up for the use of passengers, giving them a clean and comfortable experience.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Mr. Saurabh Kataria said that at present linen is supplied to passengers in about 20 trains in Bhopal division. These trains mainly include Shan-e-Bhopal Express, Humsafar Express, Rewanchal Express, Urjadhani Express, Bhopal-Pratapgarh Express, Rani Kamlapati-Agartala Express, Saharsa Express, Bhopal-Rewa Express etc.
“We pay special attention to cleanliness and hygiene and take every possible step to ensure passenger satisfaction,” said Mr R P Khare, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer.
Passengers can use the Rail Madad portal for any linen related complaint or suggestion. Speedy redressal of these complaints is ensured.
Through all these efforts, Indian Railways is ensuring that passengers get clean, hygienic and comfortable linen during their journey, making their travel experience even more pleasant.
