Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, several schemes are being run by the Government of Chhattisgarh for the betterment of workers and their families. Through these schemes, continuous financial assistance is being provided to improve the social and economic status of workers. Prominent among them are Chief Minister Naunihal Scholarship Scheme, Minimata Mahtari Jatan Yojana, Chief Minister Shramik Tool Kit Scheme, Chief Minister Noni Babu Meritorious Education Promotion Scheme, Free Uniforms and Assistance for Book Copy, Outstanding Sports Promotion Scheme for children of construction workers, outstanding sports encouragement scheme, Chief Minister Narayan Singh Shram Annas Yojana, Shaheed Veera Narayan Singh Shram Annas Yojana, are being run. State Labor Minister Dewangan says that the famous Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, thinks that every hand work is being made by the Commerce Industry and Labor Department of the state in this direction. A provision of Rs 255 crore 31 lakh has been made in the budget of the current financial year 2025-26 for the Labor Department.
Labor Day is celebrated worldwide. The main objective of celebrating International Labor Day or Labor Day on May 1 is to take a pledge for the rights, social justice and better working conditions of the workers. This day is also celebrated to remember the contribution of workers and to honor their struggles. This day is celebrated in the year 1886 in memory of the violence of laborers during the protests of laborers at Hammert Square, Chicago, where many workers demanded 8 hours of working day. In 1889, the Second International Organization declared 1 May as International Labor Day. The purpose of celebrating this day is to ensure the rights of the workers, promote social justice and raise their voice for better working conditions. Celebrating Labor Day in India began in 1923 from Chennai (Madras). Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, President of the Constitution Construction Assembly of India, reduced the working time of the workers from 12 hours to 8 hours. Apart from this, he provided the facility of maternity leave to women.
The Labor Department has made a provision of Rs 125 crore 10 lakh in the budget of 2025-26 for the Atal Labor Empowerment Scheme under the Chhattisgarh Unorganized Workers State Social Security Board. Similarly, a provision of Rs 6 crore has been made for the grant of the state government for 2 lakh 26 thousand organized workers registered in the year 2025-26. Labor Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan says that Vishnu Dev Sarkar thinks that every hand should get work and every stomach should get food, it is the ideal policy of our government. The state government is committed to implement this policy.
The Chief Minister has announced to start Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Shram Ann Yojana in all the districts of the state, under which 31 food centers have been started in 13 districts this year. Which is being expanded in all the districts in the current financial year 2025-26. The state government has taken the initiative by the department to set up mobile camps at the development level for registration of unorganized sector workers and construction workers. So far, 4 thousand 705 mobile camps have been set up.
A budget provision of Rs 6 crore 24 lakh 25 thousand has been made in the current financial year for industrial health and safety. Under the Labor Department, the main responsibility of employee state insurance services is also provided to the workers and their family members. A provision of Rs 64 crore 18 lakh has been made by the state government for employee state insurance services.
