Good news for government employees, government started appointing major posts


Taking an important step towards the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, the Central Government has started the appointment process for 42 major posts. This action shows that the government is moving fast for the establishment of the new Pay Commission, which will affect 57 lakh pensioners and about 48 lakh central government employees.

According to the circular issued by the Department of Expenditure Department (DOE) of the Finance Ministry, recruitment for 40 posts including various advisory and secretariat roles has started. In addition, the chairman of the Commission and two important members are going to be appointed soon. The chairman and members will be announced soon.

  • The Financial Express reports that the names of two important members and chairman of the 8th Pay Commission have almost been decided. An official announcement is expected soon.
  • Along with three Under Secretaries, two directors or Deputy Secretaries and 37 other staff members, the Commission will start initial work as soon as the terms of reference (TOR) are announced.
  • According to sources, the 8th Pay Commission will be less members, the 8th Pay Commission will work more efficiently than the previous commissions.
  • For comparison, the 7th Pay Commission headed by Justice Ashok Kumar Mathur consisted of 45 members, including 16 advisors and 18 secretariat employees.
  • On the other hand, the next commission is expected to be less members like previous commissions like 5th Pay Commission (3 members) and 6th Pay Commission (4 members).
  • The National Council (JCM) has started drafting demands for employees.
  • A detailed memorandum presented to the 8th Pay Commission by the National Council’s Employees Base (JCM) is currently being prepared.
  • On April 22, 2025, a long meeting included important subjects such as minimum wage, pay scale amendment, fitment factor, allowance, promotion policy and pension structure.
  • All government employees unions have been asked to submit their recommendations in Word or PDF format by May 20, 2025.
  • More than 1 crore employees, pensioners will benefit 8th Pay Commission will play an important role in updating the salaries, benefits and working conditions of about 48 lakh central government employees and 57 lakh pensioners.
  • Although the government has not yet formally announced the complete formation of TOR and Commission, recent incidents strongly indicate that this process is going well.
