Importance and role of nsab

The National Security Advisory Board is an important part of India’s National Security Management System. This board provides long -term analysis and suggestions to the National Council of Security (NSC). NSAB was first formed in 1998 during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Since then it has been playing an important role in shaping national security policies. The board meets at least once a month. Recovers on policy issues as required.

NSAB has made several significant contributions to the past, such as drafting nuclear theory in 2001, strategic defense review in 2002 and National Security Review in 2007. The new board will focus on further strengthening strategic policies, given regional and global security challenges, especially stress with Pakistan and China.

Background of change

Amidst the tension along the border with Pakistan and the increasing activities of China in the Indo-Pacific region, India is focusing on strengthening its national security structure. This restructuring of NSAB is part of the government’s strategy that wants to promote coordination in the areas of defense, intelligence and diplomacy. Recently, the post of Additional National Security Advisor (AnsA) has also been filled in the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), which has reduced the charge of NSA. He can provide more effective assistance to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Future direction

The new NSAB is expected to play an important role in finalizing the National Security Strategy (NSS), which is being tried to prepare for the last several years. This strategy will help align India’s military and diplomatic policies, especially when threats from neighboring countries are increasing.

Under the leadership of Alok Joshi, the focus of NSAB will be not only on traditional security threats, but also on emerging areas such as cyber war, technical intelligence and regional stability. A mixture of experts from military, police and foreign services on the board will provide a comprehensive approach that will help India further strengthen its position on global and regional forums.
