Justice Yashwant Verma of Delhi High Court is seen surrounded by cash received during a fire in his government residence. High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay has asked Justice Verma to secure all the records of his phone on the instructions of the Chief Justice (CJI) of the Supreme Court. This includes conversation, messages and data, as the dispute around them is constantly coming to the fore.
Justice Verma denied the allegations against him in the incident of cash recovery in a statement to Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay. Justice Verma said, “None of his staff showed any remains of cash or currency on the spot.
He said in his statement, “I personally investigated the matter with my staff, who confirmed that the notes allegedly found in the house were not removed. Only debris and the items that could be saved were removed. They are kept separately in the house and are available for inspection.”
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has allegedly informed the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court that according to the security guard stationed at Justice Verma’s residence, some debris and partially burnt items were removed on the morning of 15 March.
Justice Verma responded by rejecting any kind of wrongdoing allegations. However, when the Chief Justice of the High Court showed him the video of the incident, Justice Verma hurt his reputation and feared a possible deep conspiracy to infamous.
The Supreme Court has released a detailed report and Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Devendra Kumar Upadhyay has demanded a thorough investigation into the recent incident. In his reply, Justice Yashwant Verma said that neither to him, nor his daughter nor his house staff, was ever shown sacks of burnt cash, which were reportedly found on the spot.
Justice Verma also expressed disappointment about the media and said that proper investigation should have been done before spreading the defamable claims that tarnished his reputation.
