Dhaka
The Bangladesh army has called a large number of armored vehicles and a large number of soldiers in the capital Dhaka. According to the report, 100 soldiers have been asked to gather in Dhaka from every brigade of the army. This incident has happened at a time when there have been reports of a rift in relations between Bangladesh’s Army and the organization who led the anti -Hasina agitation. The report of North East News has revealed that soldiers of the most important 9th division at Savar have started entering Dhaka in a gradual manner.
The report quoted the highly placed sources of Bangladesh’s security establishment as saying that it will take some more days for the army to strengthen the country. Bangladesh army has 10 regional command of division size, with no fixed number of brigade. The 9th Infantry Division is located in Savar, while another important 19th Infantry is posted at Division Ghatail.
Student leaders disclosed regarding army chief
The Bangladesh Army was activated after the revelations of Asif Mahmud Shazib Bhuiyan, an advisor to the local government, the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperation in the interim government of Bangladesh. Bhuiyan claimed in a video that Army Chief General Waqar Ujman had reluctant to appoint Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus as the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government. The already recorded video was released on Friday.
Earlier, another influential student leader Hasanat Abdullah threatened to launch a movement against the army establishment after a secret meeting with General Zaman on 11 March. It was said that General Zaman had suggested that Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League could return to politics and also contest elections when elections are held in Bangladesh.
Threatening agitation against army
However, Abdullah and Bhuiyan did not reveal why they waited for more than two weeks to make the conversation public with General Zaman, but Abdullah threatened to start a movement against army officials to open the way for the return of the deserted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Soon after the revelations of Bhuiyan and the Facebook post of Abdullah, the heads of the three armies of Bangladesh held a virtual meeting, whose purpose was to take steps in the near future in fear of another rebellion of students. It is not yet clear whether the army will take strong steps or not. Meanwhile, Mohammad Yunus is going to visit China for three days from 26 March.
Trying to discredit the army chief
11 between student representatives and General Waqar Most of the people in Bangladesh have surprised the details of the march meeting. This is seen as an attempt to tarnish the image of the army chief. In fact, Yunus is beginning to realize that his situation has become very weak after taking over as the Chief Advisor on August 8 last year. This is the reason why he has proposed peace in front of New Delhi and demanded a meeting with PM Narendra Modi at the BIMSTEC conference.
However, this meeting is not possible as the officials involved in the Yunus government have consistently made provocative statements against India. Apart from this, the Indian establishment soon wants to see a democratic-function process, so that a legitimate political party comes to power, with which it can move forward. Meanwhile, the army under the leadership of General Zaman remains an important basis in Bangladesh.
