Former spinner Harbhajan Singh commented on the absence of fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah and identified the moment when ‘favorite’ in the upcoming Champions Trophy would miss India the most shortage of presence on his field. After winning England in a 3–0 ODI series, India proved their ability by licking the top teams despite the absence of their best player Bumrah.
A week before the Champions Trophy, the BCCI confirmed that India would land in this big event without Bumrah. Bumrah was in the race against time to get fit on time for the tournament. But his lower back injury proved to be enough to keep him away from a exciting match. Harbhajan analyzed India’s depth without Bumrah and was convinced that the Indian team would perform well with experienced fast bowlers.
Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel, ‘I still think that India is the most favorite in the Champions Trophy. Bumrah is a big force that can win the match. There are many experienced players like Arshdeep, Shami, Kuldeep and Jadeja even without Bumrah. India is the most preferred, but they have to play like a favorite. ‘
Due to the absence of Bumrah, fast bowlers Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana will have to bear the brunt of providing important successes. Even after suffering a major setback, India’s batting unit has returned to the form, which has given them relief. Star batsmen who lost their rhythm in Test matches in Australia returned to their old style during three domestic ODIs against England.
India captain Rohit Sharma scored a bang in the second ODI. Batting masters Virat Kohli achieved his rhythm in the final ODI by creating a half -century at a good speed. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer’s bat easily scored runs. Before this big event, things are getting correct for India, so the former spinner gave a message to Rohit Sharma -led team that if they want to win the tournament, then learn to play without Bumrah.
He said, ‘I consider India a favorite because of its ability. Rohit is back in form, Virat has scored runs, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are scoring runs. So the batting and bowling departments are performing well. I think the lack of Bumrah will be felt in the last few overs when the opposition team will need some runs with two or three wickets. But I think if you want to win the tournament, then you should learn to play without Bumrah. ‘ India will launch the Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh in Dubai on 20 February.
