GBS i.e. Gulian Bar syndrome continues to wreak havoc. It is reported that now the first patient has died in Mumbai, known as the financial capital of the country. Earlier, 7 patients in Pune, Maharashtra have lost their lives due to GBS. GBS patients have been confirmed in at least 2 states of the country.
According to media reports, a 53 -year -old patient admitted to Nair Hospital succumbed due to GBS. He was on ventilator. On Friday, the first case of GBS came to light in the city. A 64 -year -old woman was then admitted to the hospital. BMC officials said that the woman, a resident of Andheri East area of the city, was admitted to the hospital on complaints of being paralyzed after fever and diarrhea.
How deadly GBS
GBS is a rare disorder, in which the immunity of the person attacks the peripheral nerve, causing the body parts to suddenly numb. There is weakness in the muscles and there is also difficulty in swallowing or breathing. In severe GBS cases, the patient can be completely paralyzed. Most adults and men are more likely to have this disorder, although people of all ages can be affected by it.
8 deaths so far
A 37 -year -old driver from Pune died during treatment in a city hospital due to GBS. In addition, the number of GBS -related deaths in Pune increased to seven, including both suspected and confirmed cases. After another death in Mumbai, the figure has increased to 8.
