Google’s dominance in the search engine market has continued for years. Many companies tried to beat Google Search Engine, but no one could compete with Google’s algorithm. But now the story is changing and along with this story, the picture of the search engine market is also changing.
Such an occasion has come after about 10 years, when Google’s market share has fallen below 90 percent. According to the report of Statcounter, Google’s search engine market share has decreased in the last three months of 2024. It was 89.34 percent in October, 89.99 percent in November and in December, Google’s market share has become 89.74 percent.
Bing’s market share has increased
This is a big upheaval in the search engine market, because Google’s share here has been more than 90 percent for years. Earlier in the year 2015, Google’s market share had come below 90 percent. Microsoft Bing has benefited from the decline in Google’s market. In the last half of 2024, Bing has achieved significant growth and its market share has reached 4 percent.
This shows that even if slowly, Bing is becoming popular. A major reason for the popularity of the search engine is the arrival of ChatGPT. However, despite having a market share of 4 percent, Bing is far behind Google Search. According to Statcounter, Google is gradually losing its market share.
The company’s market share is stable in many regions. The overall decline has occurred due to falling market share in the Asia Pacific region. In America, the market of Google search engine was 90.37 percent in the month of November, which has fallen to 87.39 percent in December.
Challenge due to AI
After ruling the market for years, Google is now facing challenges. The company has also been accused of creating a monopoly in the market illegally, due to which the company has been under investigation for two years. At the same time, one of the reasons for the decrease in popularity of Google is the popularity of AI search engine.
Search engines like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity are becoming increasingly popular. However, Statcounter has not named any AI search engine in its report. The company mostly tracks data from traditional search engines only. After Google, Bing comes second in terms of market share.
