Barcelona star Alejandro Balde complains of racial abuse during match against Getafe

FC Barcelona player Alejandro Balde said he faced racial abuse from Getafe fans. The incident took place during the 1-1 draw match at Collegium on Saturday. Balde told this to the referee at half time. Barcelona had a good chance to consolidate their place in La Liga after Atletico Madrid’s defeat to Leganes. But instead of winning, Barcelona could only manage a one-point lead.

This is the fifth consecutive season that Barcelona could not win against Getafe. Jules Kounde’s goal initially gave the team the lead, but Getafe scored an equalizing goal and prevented Barcelona from progressing with their defensive tactics. After the match, Balde said, “Many racial comments were made at me. This is something that should not happen anymore. I told the referee at half-time, after which the league’s protocols were implemented. But what happened next, I don’t know.”

According to La Liga rules, a match is stopped if the referee witnesses racist behavior or is informed of it by players or security officials. An announcement is then made over the stadium’s PA system, warning spectators that if the abuse continues, the players will leave the field. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick also condemned the incident. “There is no place for such incidents,” he said. It is unimaginable that this is happening even today. Such people should stay at home and not come to sports. We have to fight against it. this is unacceptable. And the people around should also take steps to stop it.”

The club stood with Balde, saying, “Racism has once again shown its ugly face on the football field. Today Alejandro Balde became its victim. There is no room for racism. We are with Balde 100 percent.” Incidents of racial abuse against players have increased in Spanish football in recent years. Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior has also become a victim of this many times. Barcelona are currently third in La Liga and five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid. At the same time, Getafe has been unbeaten against Barcelona in its last five home Liga matches and is still just one point away from the relegation zone.
