Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism, Culture and Religious Trusts and Endowments, Shri Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi has said that Bhopal, famous for its rich culture, historical heritage and natural beauty, will be recognized as the Literature City of the World in UNESCO. Bhopal will get global recognition in the field of literary creation, preservation and promotion. Minister of State Shri Lodhi was addressing the stakeholder seminar at Mulla Ramuji Sanskriti Bhawan on the proposal to nominate Bhopal in the field of literature in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network. Minister of State Shri Lodhi said that this will give a global platform to the literature and litterateurs of Bhopal. Besides, the educational, social and cultural development of Bhopal will get a boost.

Mayor Bhopal Smt. Malti Rai signed the application and declaration to designate Bhopal as a literary destination. Mayor Mrs. Rai said that every possible effort will be made to declare Bhopal as a literary city by UNESCO. This achievement will increase the pride of Bhopal city. In the coming times, Bhopal will become the literary and cultural center of the world.

Principal Secretary Culture, Tourism and Managing Director Tourism Board Shri Shiv Shekhar Shukla said that efforts are being made to nominate Bhopal in the field of literature in UNESCO’s Creative City Network. With this, the literary heritage of Bhopal will be revealed to the world. UNESCO has included 53 cities from 39 countries in the Creative City Network in the field of literature. Last year, Kozhikode city of Kerala was included in the field of literature by UNESCO. Efforts are being made to make Bhopal the second city of the country. Since Gwalior was given the status of Music City by UNESCO, interest towards music has increased among the youth in Gwalior. Similarly, with Bhopal getting the status of literary city, youth will also be attracted towards literary creation and reading. The dossier for inclusion of Bhopal in UNESCO’s Creative City Network has been prepared by Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. It is being sent to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Once approved by the Ministry of Culture the dossier will be transmitted to UNESCO for evaluation.

In the seminar, the stakeholders were informed about UNESCO’s Creative City Network and told that cities are recognized by UNESCO in 7 categories. It includes crafts and folk arts, composition, film, culinary arts, literature, music and media arts. The golden heritage of literary creation started by Maharaja Bhoj in 1010 AD makes Bhopal special in the field of literary creation and preservation. Along with Hindi, literature has been created in Bhopal by litterateurs in languages ​​like Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi etc. In Bhopal, more than 150 cultural and literary events are organized by the Culture Department and more than 20 annual events are organized by Bharat Bhavan. There are more than 70 libraries and reading centers in Bhopal. Along with this, various literary programs are organized in Bhopal with the cooperation of communities and institutions. Through the presentation in the seminar, the stakeholders will be given information about the literary programs and activities, compilations, exhibitions and events taking place in the city to give Bhopal the status of literary city and the efforts to be made for the promotion and promotion of literature in the next 4 years. Was discussed.
