An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who was about to take charge on his first posting in Karnataka’s Hassan district, died in an accident. Police gave this information on Monday. Police said that Harsh Vardhan, a 2023 batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre, was a resident of Madhya Pradesh. It is reported that his age was 26 years.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening when a tire of the police vehicle burst near Kittane in Hassan taluk, following which the driver lost control and the vehicle collided with a roadside house and a tree, he said. According to the police, Vardhan was on his way to Hassan to report for duty as a probationary assistant superintendent of police in Holenarsipur.
Vardhan suffered serious head injuries and died during treatment at the hospital, while the driver Manjegowda suffered minor injuries, a senior police officer said. Police said the IPS officer had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysore.

On Monday, a bus collided with a road divider in Sira area of Tumkuru, Karnataka. In this incident, 3 passengers have died and more than 20 are injured. According to the police, the incident occurred at 4.30 am on Monday. The bus was returning from Goa. The injured passengers were admitted to a nearby hospital. As soon as information about the incident was received, the police also reached the spot.
