Development of cricket and women’s sports a priority in Los Angeles Olympics: Jay Shah

Jay Shah, after assuming the charge of the President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday, said that his priority is to accelerate the development of women’s game along with preparations for cricket being included in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 Games. “I am honored to assume the role of ICC President and I am grateful for the support and confidence of the ICC Directors and Member Boards,” Jay Shah said in a statement after taking over as ICC President here today. “This is an exciting time for the game as we prepare for the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 and work to make cricket more inclusive and attractive to fans around the world,” he said.

“We are at a turning point with the co-existence of multiple formats and the need to accelerate the growth of the women’s game,” she said. He said, “Cricket has immense potential at the global level and I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member States to capitalize on these opportunities and take the game to new heights.

“I would also like to thank Greg Barclay for his leadership in the role over the past four years and the achievements he has achieved during that period,” he said. “I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member States to expand the reach and growth of the game on the global stage,” he said.
