An Indian student has been arrested in Canada for raping several women by posing as a rideshare driver. The accused targeted young South Asian women in their 20s. He faces several charges including sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery.
An Indian citizen has been arrested on charges of rape in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada. It is alleged that this young man has made many women his victims by posing as a rideshare driver.
According to officials, he has specifically targeted girls in their 20s. This incident has spread panic in the entire area. The police are considering it as a serious crime and are investigating.
Women targeted by posing as rideshare drivers
On November 8, two women waiting at a bus stop in Brampton were approached by a man in a black sedan. He described himself as a rideshare driver. A woman sat in his car.
The accused then raped the woman near Highway 27 and Nashville Road in Vaughan. Shortly afterward, the same man identified another woman as a rideshare driver. Persuaded him to sit in the car. After that he also raped her.
Accused arrested after third incident
Another incident was reported in Brampton on November 16. A woman took a ride from a rideshare driver. She was raped near Airport Road. Police have arrested the accused Arshdeep Singh. He faces serious charges like rape, strangulation, rape with a weapon, kidnapping, robbery and intimidation.
Young South Asian women targeted
Peel Police Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich described it as an ‘extremely violent and horrific crime.’ He also said that the accused had specifically targeted young South Asian women. Police has taken strict action in this matter. Demanded punishment against the accused.
