Batuk Bhairava is also the fierce incarnation of Lord Shiva and is known as the protector of the field, protector of the temple and protector of the traveller. According to a legend, a demon named Aapda had attained the boon of being invincible by doing penance in ancient times. The only way he could be killed was by a five-year-old child. After receiving the boon, disaster created an uproar everywhere. By misusing his powers he created havoc among the gods and humans. The gods prayed to Lord Shiva for help in this regard.
