In Vidisha, the collector held chalk and duster, when he himself came to teach the students, the picture of schools started changing.

To bring the deteriorating education system back on track, a collector himself has got hold of a chalk-duster. Collectors are reaching a school every week and teaching the students of class 10th-12th. It started as an effort to improve the results of board examinations, but with this initiative the picture of other schools in Vidisha district has also started changing.

Roshan Kumar Singh, an IAS officer of the year 2015 batch, has studied from IIT Delhi. He is very inclined towards better education. When he took charge as Collector in Vidisha three months ago, he became aware of the poor condition of the education system in the district. During inspection, the level of education of children in most of the schools was found to be very weak.

Departmental officers also added

After this, he entrusted the responsibility of strengthening the systems of primary and middle schools to the departmental officers and himself took charge of creating a better education environment in high schools and higher secondary schools. Now whenever he is getting time, he is going to school and playing the role of a teacher.

Took classes in three schools this month

This month he has taken classes at CM Rise School, MLB School and Haidergarh Higher Secondary School. The Collector is also involving other intellectuals of the district in this initiative, so that the children can be better prepared for the examination.

Mathematics, Science and Commerce studies

Collector Roshan Kumar Singh is teaching Mathematics, Physics and Commerce in his classes. In this also, his main emphasis is on preparing for the exam. In MLB School, he got old question papers solved, so that children learn to solve question papers within the time limit. He has also asked the teachers to continuously practice solving the question papers of five years.

Changes started appearing in other schools also

Collectors have just reached three schools, but its effect is visible in all the 207 schools of the district. Principal of MLB School, Dr. Deepti Shukla said that after taking the Collector’s class, enthusiasm for studies has awakened among the children, while teachers have also become serious about teaching in their subject classes. He said that for the first time teachers are also being tested academically. Improvement is being seen in the system of school running even in schools in rural areas. Now there is a worry among teachers that collectors can come to their school at any time, so they have started paying attention to the attendance of children also.

Action against negligent teachers also intensified

After this new initiative, the activity of officials has increased in primary and middle schools also. From BRC to APC and DPC, the responsibility of inspection of schools has been given. Show cause notices have also been issued to 225 teachers who did not reach schools on time during the last three months. Now under the new system, preparations are being made to call the attendance register of teachers daily on WhatsApp.

Children studying in government schools are intelligent, but they get scared by the method of examination. My aim is to remove the fear of examination from the minds of children. The subjects should be taught to them in easy language. Started this from myself. The intellectuals of the society will also be included in this. This year, a target has been set to increase the examination results of high school and higher secondary schools by ten percent.
