Agency, New Delhi (CNG Price Hike). In many other cities of the country including Mumbai, the price of CNG has increased by Rs 2 per kg. Consumers of the election-bound state of Delhi are currently exempted from this increase.
Indraprastha Gas Ltd, which sells CNG for automobiles and provides piped natural gas for cooking to households in the national capital and surrounding areas, increased the price of CNG by Rs 2 per kg over the weekend. Prices have been increased in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and other cities. However, Delhi has been kept out of this increase, where elections are due in a few weeks.
Relief to Delhiites till elections
According to MGL’s website, Mumbai’s gas retailer Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the price of CNG by Rs 2 in Mumbai after the elections are over. Costs have increased by 20% in two months.
CNG price in Delhi remained unchanged at Rs 75.09 per kg, while in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, the price increased by Rs 2 per kg to Rs 81.70 and in Gurugram to Rs 82.12 per kg.
As soon as the assembly elections in Maharashtra ended, MGL increased the price of CNG in Mumbai by Rs 2 per kg to Rs 77 from November 22. Other city gas retailers have also increased the price of CNG.
When elections were due in Uttar Pradesh in 2022, IGL had revised the rates in Delhi, but did not change the rates for UP cities. CNG prices in Delhi may be revised after the assembly elections to be held in January/February.
That’s why the price had to be increased
MGL and IGL did not give the reason for the price increase, but sources said it was bound to happen because after two rounds of cut in the supply of APM gas, the companies are now having to buy expensive gas. CNG is made from natural gas extracted from land and seabed and is used to power automobiles.
However, supplies from ONGC’s domestic fields, called APM gas, have been unable to meet the growing demand for CNG. The supply has been cut twice since mid-September, forcing city gas retailers to buy expensive non-APM gas or expensive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG). The price of CNG varies from state to state depending on the impact of local taxes, such as VAT.
