Amid the political turmoil that has been going on in Bangladesh since last week, Mohammad Yunus has taken charge of the interim government. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was forced to leave the country after the protests, has been given a big statement by her son regarding her return to the country. Her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said that if the interim government decides to hold elections, the former Prime Minister can return. Hasina had to step down after weeks of violent protests, after which she has taken refuge in India. The caretaker government led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus was sworn in on Thursday.
Speaking to the Times of India daily, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who lives in the US, said, “Right now, she is in India. She will return to Bangladesh immediately as soon as the interim government decides to hold elections.” It is worth noting that Hasina’s Awami League party has not been included in the interim government.
If needed, I will not shy away from joining politics- Joy
Earlier, citing Hasina’s age, Joy had said that now Hasina will never take part in active politics. However, he soon changed his stance. On the question of his own entry into the political arena, he has said that if needed, he will not shy away from joining politics. He said, “I am sure that Awami League will participate in the elections and we can also win.”
S Jaishankar spoke to the British Foreign Minister
Currently Hasina is in New Delhi. According to reports, she was planning to take asylum in Britain, but the British Home Ministry has refused to comment on this. On the other hand, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday that he has discussed this issue with his British Foreign Minister. However, he has not shared much information about it.
