The International Kho Kho Federation has notified new rules for the Kho Kho World Cup matches to be held in New Delhi from January 13 to 19. These rules will be applicable with immediate effect in national and international Kho Kho matches. International Kho Kho Federation President Sudhanshu Mittal said that the duration of the Kho Kho match will be of 50 minutes and before the match, through toss, both the teams will get the opportunity to choose the option of attacking and defense. Each team will have 15 players, out of which 12 players will play in the field while the remaining three players will be substitutes.
According to the issued rules, crossing the central lane, getting up early, retreating and changing direction will be considered as foul. The size of the playing field for the Kho Kho World Cup will be 26 by 20 meter rectangular. Each match will be of two innings. Each innings will be divided into attacking and defensive turns of seven minutes. There will be a four-minute rest after each innings and a three-minute break between turns. At the beginning of the turn a batch of three defenders will be on the playing field. When all three defenders are declared out, there will be a break of 30 seconds and the next batch of defenders will have to enter the field within 30 seconds and if they do not enter the field of play within the stipulated time period, they will be given a late entry. If a bat from the defending team remains on the field for three minutes, it will be awarded one extra point and after that, one extra point will be awarded for every 30 seconds. To execute ‘Kho’, the squatter will touch the back of the seated attacker with his palm and immediately pronounce the word ‘Kho’ out loud, which must be heard by the umpire and referee. The attacking team will get two points for each successful out. Each team will be allowed two reviews. The team with higher numbers at the end of two innings will be victorious.
