Why are tier-2 cities growing?
Cities like Jaipur, Coimbatore and Gurgaon are now becoming new hubs of employment generation which are becoming a good alternative to the congestion and problems of metro cities for students and professionals. According to TeamLease report, traditional metro cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad have not lost their prominence even today. Bengaluru leads with 53.1% followed by Mumbai (50.2%) and Hyderabad (48.2%). However, employment opportunities are increasing rapidly even in small cities. Coimbatore and Gurgaon: Why are employment centers being built?
Cities like Coimbatore and Gurgaon are now emerging as new employment hubs. These cities are attracting companies due to their low operating costs, skilled workers and supporting infrastructure. Due to rising costs and saturation in metro cities, businesses are now preferring to invest in these cities. These cities have many educational institutions and training centers that are providing a ready and qualified workforce to the companies. Due to this, employment is expanding in Coimbatore and Gurgaon, especially in the IT, manufacturing and service sectors.
Growing opportunities at low cost
Low real estate costs, affordable utilities and low labor costs in Coimbatore and Gurgaon have attracted companies to these cities. This is also benefiting businesses that were looking for suitable space to reduce overhead expenses.
Ideal for IT and non-IT industries
The appeal of these tier-2 cities is not limited to the IT sector alone. Cities like Coimbatore and Gurgaon have ideal opportunities for IT as well as manufacturing, finance, and other industries. Low costs and availability of skilled labor are making these cities attractive for diverse industries.
Challenges of metro cities
Although the prominence of metro cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad continues, they too are facing many challenges. Due to increasing population and urbanization in these cities, pressure on infrastructure is increasing. Apart from this, skill gap is also being seen in some specific areas in these cities which is becoming a challenge for the companies.
Employment hubs in India are no longer limited to metro cities only. Small and emerging cities like Coimbatore, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Lucknow and Nagpur are fast becoming new hubs of employment generation. These cities are becoming ideal choices for companies with better infrastructure, lower costs and skilled workers. This is the reason why employment is increasing in these cities which will contribute significantly to the overall economic development of the country in future.
