The civil society has now taken a tough stance on the conversion being done in Chhattisgarh by forcibly and tempting. The society has strongly demanded to put such people in the general category.<\/p>\n

State convenor of Civil Society, Dr. Kuldeep Solanki said that a large number of people have converted to their traditional tribal identity, yet they are taking advantage of dual facility. Such people neither inform the government about changing their identity nor leave the benefit of reservation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Doctor Solanki said that it is not only against the dignity of the Constitution, but is also a gross injustice to the original tribal society. He clarified that the reservation given to the Scheduled Tribes was to protect their specific cultural identity, traditions and lifestyle. But those who have abandoned these traditions themselves, they should no longer get the benefit of these facilities.<\/p>\n

The Civil Society has demanded amendment to Article 342 of the Constitution, saying that the process of de-listing should be legally implemented, so that the real tribal society can get full benefit of their rights.<\/p>\n

What is de-listing?<\/h3>\n

Scheduled castes and tribes in India get the benefit of special reservation and welfare schemes under Article 341 and 342 of the Constitution. But when a person leaves his traditional religious identity and follows the religions like Christians or Islam, even if he maintains the status of ST or SC, it is called “de-listing”.
