New Delhi<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Department of Telecommunication (DOT) has issued instructions to all major social media platforms. Under this directive, all social media platforms including Google, Meta, Instagram and X have to remove such content or application, which facilitates collar ID tampering.<\/p>\n
In simple words, such content or applications have to be removed, with the help of which telecom users can change their identity. It has been considered a crime in Telecommunications Act 2023. This step of DOT has been taken to prevent collar line identification fraud or CLI spoofing.<\/p>\n
Why DOT issued these instructions?<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Department of Telecommunication has released these adhires after a video of social media influencers went viral. This video shows how telecom users can change their caller line identification. Because of this, when he calls other users, he will see a different number.<\/p>\n
That is, you can hide your real number by using this method. When the user calls someone using it, the other user will not see the original number, but will see another number. This type of tampering with caller identity is called CLI Spoofing.<\/p>\n
Callr ID is considered to be crime<\/strong><\/p>\nGenerally, rules are issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT regarding social media. But DOT has taken cognizance in this matter. The reason for this is to come under the Telecommunication Act of such tampering. According to the advisory, social media platforms will have to make changes according to these rules by February 28.<\/p>\n
If these rules are not followed, action can also be taken against the company. Under this, jails up to three years and a fine of up to 50 lakhs can be imposed.
