New Delhi<\/strong><\/p>\n

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that ‘Nuclear Energy Mission for Developed India’ is a major plan to increase India’s nuclear capabilities, encourage private sector participation and establish advanced nuclear technology.<\/p>\n

Addressing a press conference in the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Singh said that the Union Budget has allocated \u20b9 20,000 crore for the research and development of small modular reactors (SMR). The government aims to start at least five indigenous SMR by 2033.<\/p>\n

He said that this initiative is in line with India’s ambitious goal of gaining 100 GW Nuclear Energy Capacity by 2047. This step will play an important role in reducing carbon emissions and ensuring clean and sustainable energy.<\/p>\n

Dr. Singh described permission to allow private sector participation in the nuclear industry as a gamechanger and said that it will help India to pose in global nuclear technology along with self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n

He also mentioned that the way the space sector was opened to private companies, similarly reforms in the nuclear sector will lead to innovation and development.<\/p>\n
