Naypyidaw<\/strong>
Difficult times for the ruling junta continue in Myanmar. A rebel group called the Arakan Army is continuously pushing back the junta army in Rakhine and Chin states. Both these states are adjacent to the border of India. Meanwhile, officials from several neighboring countries talked to representatives of Myanmar’s military government in Bangkok.<\/p>\n

Know what is the whole matter<\/strong>
According to reports, the Arakan Army captured the military headquarters in Anna city of Rakhine state. Rebels claim about 200 soldiers have surrendered in Chin state. The junta still controls Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine state, which has a port on the Bay of Bengal built by India. If the Arakan Army tries to capture Sittwe, the junta could use its air force. Sittwe is strategically important to both the junta and India. Soldiers of a Chinese private military company are reportedly guarding Rakhine’s Kyauphu port, which China has built as part of the China Myanmar Economic Corridor.<\/p>\n

At the Bangkok meeting, officials from India, China, Bangladesh and Thailand agreed that direct engagement with Myanmar is important and necessary. Thailand’s Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa gave this information. Myanmar Foreign Minister Than Swe told the gathering about the military government’s political roadmap, including elections next year.<\/p>\n

Strengthening of Arakan Army is a challenge for the junta<\/strong>
The Arakan Army is continuously becoming stronger and has become a big challenge for the junta. Junta military bases in Rakhine and Chin states are increasingly falling into the hands of the Arakan Army. Due to this, the situation in Myanmar is likely to worsen further. This is also a matter of concern for India because both these states share the border with India.<\/p>\n

Sittwe Port is strategically important for India. This port is built by India and is located in the Bay of Bengal. If Arakan Army captures Sittwe then problems may arise for India. China’s role is also important here.
