After the government directed telecom operators to stop the spread of spam calls and messages, Bharti Airtel said it blocked 8 billion spam calls and 800 million spam calls within two and a half months of launching its AI-powered, spam-fighting solution. In this regard, Airtel in September launched an AI-powered spam detection solution that provides customers with real-time information about suspicious spam calls and SMS.<\/p>\n
Six percent of all calls on the Airtel network have been identified as spam calls, while 2 percent of all SMS have also been identified as spam.<\/p>\n
\u201cInterestingly, it was observed that 35 percent of spammers used landline telephones,\u201d Airtel said in its report.<\/p>\n
Additionally, customers in Delhi have received the highest number of spam calls, followed by customers in Andhra Pradesh and Western Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n
Similarly, maximum number of spam calls have come from Delhi, followed by Mumbai and Karnataka.<\/p>\n
In case of SMS, the highest number came from Gujarat, followed by Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh and the maximum number of targeted customers were from Mumbai, Chennai and Gujarat.<\/p>\n
76 percent of all spam calls targeted male customers.<\/strong><\/p>\nThe company said, \u201cSpam calls start at 9 am and their number gradually increases as the day progresses. \u201cSpam activity peaks between 12 noon and 3 pm, when the volume of spam calls is highest.\u201d<\/p>\n
The government has allotted 10 digit numbers with 160 prefix for service and transaction related calls. Additionally, customers who have not opted for Do-Not-Disturb (DND) and have subscribed to receive promotional calls will continue to receive calls from a 10-digit number with the 140 prefix.<\/p>\n
According to the government, registered complaints of unregistered senders and spam calls\/SMS dropped to 1.51 lakh in October, marking a 20 percent decline from August.<\/p>\n
According to the company, over the last 2.5 months, the AI-powered spam detection solution alerted nearly 252 million customers about these suspicious calls. The company has found that the number of customers answering these calls has declined by 12 percent.<\/p>\n
