The government has abolished the rule that candidates having more than two children cannot contest local body elections. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has said that now there is a need to produce more children. The government passed this decision by passing the AP Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the AP Municipal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The system was implemented in 1994<\/strong><br \/>Keep in mind that thirty years ago, in May 1994, the then Andhra Pradesh Assembly had passed an amendment bill, under which the criterion of two children was made mandatory for those contesting elections for Gram Panchayats, Mandal Praja Parishads and Zilla Parishads. Candidates having more than two children were considered ineligible or ineligible to contest local body elections.
