The unrest in Bangladesh has spiraled out of control since Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister. According to a report in Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, mobs on Monday vandalised homes and business establishments of Hindus in 27 districts of the neighbouring country.<\/p>\n

In Lalmonirhat Sadar district, a mob vandalised and looted the house of Pradip Chandra Roy, secretary of Lalmonirhat Puja Udjapan Parishad, at Telipara village yesterday evening. They also vandalised and looted a computer shop owned by Muhin Roy, a municipal member of the district’s Puja Udjapan Parishad.<\/p>\n

Rioters broke the statues related to Pakistan’s surrender in Bangladesh, Tharoor said – they are not worthy of forgiveness<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the political upheaval and coup in Bangladesh, various types of pictures are coming out from different parts of the country. On one hand, hundreds of deaths occurred in the country after chaos spread, while on the other hand, protesters targeted national monuments. Now another such case has come to light, where the national monument has been damaged. The statues present at the 1971 Shaheed Memorial site located in Mujibnagar have been broken. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed concern over this incident and has requested the interim government of Bangladesh to maintain law and order.<\/p>\n

Shashi Tharoor said in his social media post, “It is sad to see such pictures of the statues located in the Shaheed Memorial Complex in Mujibnagar being destroyed by anti-India miscreants in 1971. This incident has happened after the outrageous attacks on Indian cultural centers, temples and Hindu homes in many places, while there have also been reports of Muslim citizens protecting other minority homes and places of worship.<\/p>\n

Shashi Tharoor further said that the agenda of some agitators is very clear. It is necessary that Mohammad Yunus and his interim government take immediate steps to restore law and order in the interest of all Bangladeshis and people of every religion. India stands with the people of Bangladesh in this turbulent time, but such anarchy can never be forgiven.<\/p>\n

Statues are a symbol of Bangladesh’s independence<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sculptures in the complex depict the moment when Pakistan surrendered after the 1971 war. It shows Lt Gen Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the commander of the Pakistan Army in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), accepting a decisive defeat and signing the ‘surrender sign’ in Dhaka in the presence of Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Arora, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian and Bangladeshi armies in the Eastern Theatre in 1971. This incident is called the world’s largest surrender.<\/p>\n

Alert on India-Bangladesh border<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hindus are being constantly attacked in Bangladesh. Thousands of people are marching towards India. Protesters are attacking Hindu houses and temples. In such a situation, Hindus living in Bangladesh are trying to come to India. Therefore, hundreds of Bangladeshi citizens and Hindus are coming to the India-Bangladesh border. A large number of BSF has been deployed on the border. However, people are being prevented from entering India.<\/p>\n
