In Kanker, Charama police have arrested three people for illegally taking forest rights lease on government land by preparing fake documents. The arrested accused include Jeevan Thakur, husband of former sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Mayana, her son Neeraj Poya and Shop Singh, former sarpanch of the village.

According to the information received, the villagers of Mayana lodged a complaint with Sub-Divisional Officer Revenue Charama that some people have fraudulently obtained forest rights lease on government land illegally. During the investigation of the complaint, it was proved that the accused got the Forest Rights Recognition Certificate made through forgery and fake documents and caused a financial loss of ₹ 5,17,773 to the government. The police arrested the accused Jeevan Thakur, Shop Singh and Neeraj Poya and presented them in the court.

Let us tell you that this fraud was done during the tenure of the former Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat. During this time, an attempt was made to benefit some persons by issuing lease on government land illegally. Villagers say that a complaint had been made to the Collector regarding this matter earlier also, due to which there used to be a situation of dispute and tension in the village many times.
