The quarterly results of TCS, one of the biggest IT companies not only in the country but also in the world, have been released. In which such a shocking figure has come to light, which will surprise everyone. Yes, since the June quarter the company has cut 9 people every hour from its workforce. Yes, this figure is not small. In just one quarter, the company has shown the exit door to about 20 thousand employees. According to the information, the company is once again restructuring its workforce, due to which the workforce of the company has come down to below 6 lakhs. Whereas the total headcount is still given above Rs 6 lakh on the company’s website. Let us also tell you what kind of figures have come out regarding the headcount of TCS. There has been a lot of uproar over this and very serious allegations have also been made against the company.
Nearly 20 thousand layoffs in 3 months
According to the data of the second quarter of the financial year 2025-26 on the TCS website, the number of employees of the company was 6,13,069 in the June quarter, which has come down to 5,93,314 in the September quarter. The nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an organization of IT employees, has accused TCS of underreporting the number of employees fired from the company. Earlier, TCS Chief Human Resources Officer Sudeep Kunnumal said on Thursday that the company recently laid off about one percent i.e. 6,000 employees from the company as part of the restructuring. However, NITES strongly disputed this number and said there was a reduction of 19,755 employees in a single quarter.
Current workforce in TCS is below 6 lakhs
TCS, which filed its financial results for the second quarter of FY 2025-26 with BSE immediately after the market closed, did not disclose the total number of employees and attrition figures (a standard part of the income statement). Later, in the information given through fact sheet on its website, the number of employees in the second quarter of the financial year 2025-26 has been shown as 5,93,314. TCS had said in July this year that it plans to lay off about two percent of its global workforce this year, or 12,261 employees, most of whom will be in the middle and senior levels. The company had said at that time that this step is part of the company’s broader strategy to become a future-ready entity. However, the labor organization has denied the alleged retrenchment figures and accused TCS of adopting the strategy of pressurizing the employees to resign.
Only one percent of the company’s claim was exempted
In the information given to investors, TCS said that it has released one percent of its employees, mainly mid and senior level employees, from the company. These are employees whose skills and abilities did not match. Kunnumal said that we are providing benefits, counseling and assistance in finding jobs in other companies to the affected employees for their transition. Besides, they are also providing retirement on terms higher than the industry standards. However, he acknowledged that in addition, there have been involuntary layoffs as part of our routine efforts related to performance and bench policies. With new appointments the total number of employees in the second quarter is 5,93,314.
Company data organization’s objection
The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate has objected to this. He said that the publicly available information and financial disclosures of the company reveal the truth. NITES said that this is not a minor difference. About 8,000 employees are missing from the job. This is more than the number of employees accepted by TCS. For a company of the size of TCS, such misinformation cannot be dismissed as a mistake. This appears to be a deliberate attempt to downplay the scale of the layoffs and mislead regulators, policymakers and the public.
Serious allegations against the organization’s company
This decline is also extremely worrying because the attrition rate has actually declined, which means that these layoffs are not voluntary but the result of management actions. NITES said TCS has continued to grow revenues during the same period, which proves that business performance does not justify such a significant cut. TCS may present these layoffs as numbers on its ledger, but for us these are stories of shattered lives. The organization alleged that employees who had shown loyalty for 10-15 years were sidelined, threatened and fired overnight. NITES Chairman Harpreet Singh Saluja said in a statement that this is not a restructuring. This is the cruelty of the company. TCS has chosen profits over peopleā¦the company has betrayed the very workforce that built its empire.
