Mumbai
When India won the Champions Trophy earlier this year, the head coach of the team was not Rahul Dravid but Gautam Gambhir. Despite this, Rohit Sharma did not give the credit of that victory to coach Gautam Gambhir but to Rahul Dravid. Now some people are linking it to him being snatched from the ODI captaincy.
Actually, the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards ceremony took place in Mumbai on Tuesday night. In which Rohit Sharma admitted that following the plan made during the tenure of former coach Rahul Dravid helped the Indian team win the Champions Trophy.
During the tenure of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, India recovered from the defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final and won the 2024 T-20 World Cup. After this the Indian team won the 2025 Champions Trophy. Rohit said during the CEAT Cricket Rating awards ceremony:
I like that team and playing with them. We all were on this journey for many years. This was not a one or two year job. Work was going on for many years. We came very close to winning the trophy many times but could not win. Then everyone decided that we had to do something different and there were two ways of looking at it.
‘Credit to Rahul Bhai for winning the Champions Trophy’
Rohit, who received a memento for winning the Champions Trophy, said, ‘All the players who participated in that Champions Trophy thought about how to win matches and how to challenge themselves and not be complacent and not take anything for granted. When we were preparing for the T-20 World Cup, this process helped me and Rahul Bhai a lot. We retained him in the Champions Trophy also.
Rohit Sharma said even after being stripped of captaincy?
On the upcoming Australia tour, the command of the Indian ODI team will not be with Rohit but with Shubman Gill. Rohit said, ‘Whenever I got a chance, I tried to play well in all three formats. I like playing against Australia. Playing cricket there is quite challenging. Have a lot of experience of playing there so know how to play.
Rohit’s pain again over 2023 WC defeat…
