A criminal case has been registered against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh writer for violence and deaths during the ‘Gen-Z’ movement led by youth in Nepal. The youth associated with the movement lodged an FIR on Tuesday at Kathmandu District Police Office. Kathmandu Superintendent of Police Pawan Bhattarai confirmed this.
This case has now been handed over to the Judicial Inquiry Commission. The commission is being chaired by Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki. A senior advocate said that FIR will establish the criminal responsibility of Oli and the author and open the way to investigate the crimes committed on 8-9 September.
76 people died in the movement
On September 8, 19 protesters died in police firing on the first day of the Gen-Z movement. In two days, 76 people lost their lives. This movement started demanding corruption and demanding the lifting of the government ban on social media. On the first day, the youth performed peacefully, but the police opened fire without warning.
On the second day, the performance became more fierce. In this, many government offices were set on fire. Oli had to resign from the post of Prime Minister due to violence and increasing anger of youth. Now the Gen-Z movement workers demand that people responsible for the violence done by the state be punished and brought them under the purview of the law.
