Saturday was recorded in golden letters in Australian cricket history. Indian -origin young batsman Harjas Singh showed such a feat in limited overs grade cricket, which no one had done before. In the match played by Western Suburbs against the Sydney Cricket Club, Harjas played an explosive innings of 314 runs off just 141 balls. In this innings, he rained 35 sixes and 12 fours.
Call century in grade cricket
This achievement has brought Harjas to a very special club of cricket history. He became the first cricketer to score a triple century in the limited overs format of grade-level cricket. He also became the third cricketer to score a triple century in New South Wales Premier First Grade Cricket (Mixing long format). Earlier, only two players- Phil Jacks (321 runs) and Victor Trumpor (335 runs) scored a triple century.
Roots related to India, star emerging in Australia
Sydney -born Harjas Singh is of Indian origin. His parents settled in Sydney from Chandigarh in the year 2000. His passion for cricket was reflected since childhood.
Harjas also performed brilliantly in the Under-19 World Cup 2024. In the final against India, he scored 55 runs from 64 balls, which was the highest score from Australia in that match. Thanks to his innings, Australia scored a respectable score of 253 runs. Australia also won the 2024 Under-19 World Cup title.
‘This was the best innings of my life’
After a record -breaking innings, Harjas Singh shared his feelings in a conversation with Fox Cricket. He said, ‘This was definitely the most clean batting of mine so far. I am very proud of this because in the off-season I worked hard on my power hitting, and today it got the result. This is a very special day for me. He further said, “In the last one or two seasons, I was paying more attention to the things outside the field, but now I have started focusing myself only on my game, and its advantage is clearly visible.”
Australian selectors got star
This triple century innings of Harjas Singh has now made him a big contender in the eyes of the selectors of the Australian team. Their fellow players such as Sam Constas, Hugh Webzen, Mahli Beardman and Oliver Peak have already reached state teams or national levels. Sam Constas has also made a test debut.
