The Bombay High Court has given its verdict in favor of veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle in Personality Rights case. In fact, the Bombay High Court on Thursday issued an order protecting their personality rights. The court stopped various institutions from misusing singer’s personal rights, such as their names and images. Even with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), his name and image will not be used.
The court said that using AI tools to imitate the voice of a celebrity without permission is a violation of their identity rights. Justice Arif S. Doctor said, “Providing AI tools to convert any celebrity in his voice without his permission will violate the personality rights of that celebrity. Such tools promote the voice of a celebrity, which is a major identity of their personal identity and public personality, promote unauthorized appropriation and manipulation of public personality.”
